Hello, I have W7 Professional 64 bit with Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode installed. I have some older programs installed in XP Mode and they are working properly. Jul 14, 2010 I have mentor distributed Aladdin HASP driver. 3 files (akscoinst.dll, akshasp.sys, hardlock.sys) This device is enabled. I used the mentor license utility v1.4.3 plus I tried to download the latest drivers from web - it is the same. Unfortunately, I have one older program that I currently have working on an older XP Machine and that program requires a Sentinel dongle to be seen on the LPT1 Parallel Port. Since my W7 computer has an LPT1 Header on the mother board, I have purchased and installed a PCI-Express Parallel Port and I have the ribbon cable connected to the LPT1 Header. After I enabled the parallel port in the bios, I could see LPT1 in the W7 Device Manager and in the Windows XP Mode Device Manager. However, when I click on Windows Virtual PC, highlight Windows XP Mode.vmcx and click on Settings, LPT1 does not appear. I have installed my old program in Windows XP Mode and it starts to run but, when it gets to the point where it must see the Sentinel dongle on the LPT1, the program does not find the dongle. I also purchased a Manhattan MHUSB to DB25 Parallel Converter and plugged it in. It said that it found new hardware and installed drivers for it but that didn’t work either. I am not married to any particular solution. So, I would use a USB Adapter or LPT1 connected to the mother board but there must be some code editing or changes in settings to make the dongle work in XP Mode. Can you tell me how to get W7 Professional 64 bit with Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode to find the Sentinel dongle on LPT1? Thank you, Dan Dan. I went as far as buying a PCIe parallel port (SIIG) in exactly your situation (running virtual XP under windows 7 64-bit). The program is Microsim's PSPICE 8.00 which uses the memoHASP dongle. Virtual XP's device manager recognizes the port as LPT3 which I remapped to LPT1. The address range it shows is 0x378, which I believe is correct. But like you, when the installer trues to communicate with key, there's no parallel port signal activity (I probed all the signals with an oscilloscope). I took it a little further and write a simple program (Visual Studio 2010) using inpout32.dll, that alternately writes 0 then 0xFF to the port. That doesn't change the port signal states either. So it appears what Benjamin says is true. Is there any chance there's a solution in process? Thanks, Scott Scott. Sentinel Hardlock Device Driver Windows 10Dan, I know this is a very old thread but I'm curious to see if you ever found a solution that would allow you to use a parallel Sentinel dongle on a Windows 7 32-bit or Windows 7 64-bit machine. We have some old software that runs fine on XP but will not run on Windows 7 (or at least we are unable to get it to run on Windows 7). With support for XP ending, we would like to move it to a Window 7 machine. The cost of an upgrade would be over $10,000 so if we can not find a solution, we may have to setup a standalone XP PC that is not on the network. This would not be an ideal solution for the user but we don't want to spend $10K just so we can use Windows 7. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Hi Dan, The only solution I've found is to abandon the old software and be more careful in the future about the forms of copy protection used by purchased software. For $10K, that's probably not the answer you wanted to hear. One solution you might have is to use remote desktop from your 7 computer to the networked XP machine. Don't know if that's a good solution for you or not. It does work, since the program is actually running on the XP machine. Of course you don't get the benefit of the new faster PC, or gobs of memory to run the old program. I did browse through DominicP's article, and believe most dongle software just does polled I/O on the dongle, but since I couldn't even write my own app that did it, there's no way an app from 15 or 20 years ago is going to work. Hardlock Device Driver Windows 7The whole issue has made me rethink my loyalty to Microsoft. It would seem that they are willing to, an any point, completely drop support for key features/hardware without concern for their users. Hardlock DriversYeah, I know and understand the financial reasons they've chosen this path, but still makes me wonder if a less-dynamic platform like Linux is more appropriate for advanced users. I'm having a hard time doing this with Windows XP mode - running Win 7 Pro 64 bit, I have a parallel port dongle connected using a USB - Parallel Port adapter. When I plug it into the machine Win 7 recognizes it and installs a driver.
